Pat Steir Exhibition at Pace Prints Opens Tonight, April 6, 2016

Pat Steir
April 7-May 7, 2016
Opening reception tonight, 5-7pm
32 EAST 57TH STREET
Pace Prints is pleased to present an exhibition of new monoprints by Pat Steir at its 32 East 57th Street Gallery, on view April 7-May 7, 2016, with an opening reception on Wednesday, April 6, 5-7pm.

Pat Steir's most recent hand-painted monoprints introduce gestures from her painterly lexicon into the printmaking medium. In a process informed by decades of printmaking experience, the artist made unique works on mylar to be silkscreened on paper. Broad strokes of paint are then applied to the screenprinted surface, creating shimmering veils of color in loops, lines and dabs.

Steir's prolific career has spanned over fifty years. Though rooted in elements of Abstract Expressionism, the artist's work is decidedly postmodern, influenced by poetry, natural elements, John Cage's ideas on chance and the I Ching. Often monumental in scale, employing a fastidious, yet seemingly loose use of color, the works are dripping dreamscapes that often reference the meditative and esoteric.
Founded in 1968, Pace Prints is a dealer and publisher of contemporary prints and is affiliated with the Pace Gallery. Pace Prints is a member of the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) and the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA).
